STEM Stop Contest
The goal of STEM Stop is to think about spaces outside of the classroom where youth can learn about STEM, make connections within their community, and begin to form or continue to shape their STEM identity. Identifying locations that reflect STEM within our community also encourages exploration, independent discovery, inquiry thinking, and problem solving.
The STEM Stop contest encourages participants to look at their community through a STEM lens and identify locations that reflect STEM. For example, how the windows of a building reinforce the concept of arrays, how a sequence can reflect a programming concept, how a lake or pool can provide an example of buoyancy, etc. Participants will submit their object and/or location, a question about said object and/or location, and a fun little activity that can be completed at the location that will help participants formulate or test an answer. The STEM STOP WALKTHROUGH document provides an example of the design process used in creating a STEM Stop and can be used to help you create yours! Locations should be in McLean County and activities should be design with elementary to middle school/Jr high ages in mind. Following the contest, a compilation of these locations and activities will be provided to the community so everyone can explore! STEM Stops can be submitted anytime before December 31st, 2021 at 10:00pm CST. Ten winners will be selected from qualified entries to receive a $25 Visa card. We encourage you to put on your "STEM Goggles" and Explore. You might be surprised at what you may find! #bnexplorerSTEM |
