​Video Contest

STEM in Our Community

STEM is all around us!  We encourage you to explore a place, object, or idea within your community in an engaging video using your tablet or phone and share that information with us!

Video Contest F.A.Q.

  • Who can enter?
    • open to McLean County residents– there are prizes for 4 categories: Elementary, Middle/Jr High, Secondary and Post Secondary + (yes, adults can submit videos, too!)
  • Are there forms that need to be completed?
    • Yes.  To enter the contest, you must complete:
      • registration form for your video
    • Once these items are submitted, you will receive an email with a link to upload your video (video must be 3 minutes or less).  Make sure that you keep a copy of the video. BNSTEM is not responsible for any films that are lost, damaged, or that do not upload properly.
  • In what format should I submit my video?
    • video must be in digital format, preferably mp4, wmv or avi format.
  • What is the deadline for submissions?
    • deadline for submissions is 5:00 pm (central time, US) on March 15th, 2021.  Winners will be announced no later than April 15, 2021.
  • Can I use copyrighted material?
    • video cannot contain any copyrighted material
  • Where should the video be filmed?
    • video should be filmed in McLean County and follow COVID rules
    • video should contain live footage or animation
  • How will the videos be judged?
    • video will be judged on the quality of the content chosen to identify STEM in our community; the creativity of the video; and the overall quality of the video (are the sound and visuals clear.)
  • Do I need to cite my sources?
    • ​all information presented in the video must be properly cited, giving credit to the original source. If your video is chosen as a finalist, you will be required to submit a list of all sources used.
  • ​Can my video be disqualified?
    • ​Yes.  We can disqualify videos if they do not follow the guidelines.
  • ​How many entries can I submit?
    • ​As many as you'd like!
  • ​What kind of prizes will be awarded?  
    • We will choose two winners (first and second place) from each category.  A $100 gift card will be awarded to first place winners and a $50 gift card will be awarded to second place winners.
  • ​What if I'm not chosen as a winner?  
    • ​Even if you don't win, your video may still make it to our social media and used on our website to highlight STEM in our community.
  • ​How are winners notified?
    • ​Winners will be notified directly using the contact information entered on their registration form.
